UCA College Summer Camp 2009

What a great week it has been!!! We met up three days prior to summer camp for some intense, productive and successful practices. The girls did a fabulous job and we were ready for camp bright and early on Saturday morning!

Day One
We left at 5:30 am for San Marcos, Tx. Once we got to Texas State, we put our stuff in our rooms, grabbed some lunch, and then headed to the coliseum for the much anticipated college demos! They were amazing without even the slightest bobble!!! Great job staff. Check out the routine below!

We had our sideline private coaching and evaluations today. It was a little shaky at first, but the girls pulled it out and received a BLUE SUPERIOR ribbon! Great job! Then it was time to learn the fight song and throw some baskets. Shout out to Kyla for a beautiful full twisting basket AND starting to throw her double full baskets! WOO HOO!!!! And I will say from personal experience that they are not the easiest landings! Haha! By the end of day one, we were ready to hit the sack as early as possible! :)

Day Two

The girls improved tremendously on day two. Before we started out....we had to stretch our SORE bodies!!! Our stunting was really clicking today, as well as our pyramids!!! Today we had fight song private coaching. The girls did an awesome job of being sharp, doing backhandsprings WITH poms, and hitting those stunts nice and solid! Of course we received another BLUE SUPERIOR ribbon! Ya!!! Tonight we had the fight song competition. I know that the girls were nervous as was I, but they were so solid that it was hard to contain our excitement! All in all.....it was a fabulous day!

Day Three

This day seems to be the longest day of camp, but the girls never showed any signs of weakness and busted their butts all day long! Before we got started with the day.....you know me....I had to take some pictures!!! Smile Girls!!! :)

They received all BLUE SUPERIOR ribbons in Game Planning Class for the different aspects of game day cheering. But I think that pyramid class was the highlight of the day where we nailed our tower pyramid!!! Way to go Lacey for being such a strong woman!!! Woo Hoo! I wish I could show a picture, but I was busy spotting the pyramid to keep all of my angels safe! This afternoon we had Cheer private coaching and evaluations. The girls worked so hard through all the chaos, and in the end pulled out another......BLUE SUPERIOR ribbon!!! Wow!

After evaluations, it was time to float the river! The girls, I think, had a good time, even though it rained on them! After the river we headed back to the dorms to shower and get ready for our team dinner! What a great way to end the day by relaxing around a table and letting loose! At the end of the night we had our team meeting where we talked about the past few days as well as giving some shout outs to the others!

Final Day

We woke up early today and packed up the vans before heading off to camp. Today we have sideline and cheer final evaluations, as well as the camp championships. The girls received BLUE SUPERIOR ribbons once again and then they were ready to compete! Sideline camp champs was first and the ladies were sharp and clean. Then it was time for cheer camp champs, which didn't go as well as we would've hoped.....but way to save that 2-2-1 Katy and Emily! Nothing drops and you proved it! :)

Awards

To close out camp we received some awesome awards! 2nd place in the Sideline competition

and 1st place in the Fight Song competition, which we wanted really really bad!!!!

And.....Roscoe placed 5th out of ALL the mascots!!! Heck ya! What an awesome week we had and I can't wait to see everyone back here on Aug 19th!

Packing List

• All uniforms (will be issued at practice)
• All camp clothes (will be issued at practice)
• Cheer Shoes (must be your new ones issued at practice)
• Royal Blue Spankies (bcg brand found at Academy $12.99)
• Running Shoes
• Hair Bows (Everyone needs to purchase a gold, royal, black w/white polka dots, and white 1" bows, not the silky type)
• Clothes for nightly activities
• Final night dinner outfit
• Towels
• Sheets (I would suggest bringing queen size, because there is a chance that we will be in a dorm at Texas State that is a queen size bed.)
• Blanket
• Pillow
• Toiletries
• Any types of pain/headache medicine
• Swimsuit
• Sunscreen (WE ARE OUTSIDE!!!! most of the time)
• Alarm Clock or use your cell phone
• Flip Flops for the river
• Extra money for camp store or other expenses

We will be traveling to camp in two 12 passenger vans. No individual cars will be taken. I know this is a lot to pack, but due to limited space everyone is only allowed one suitcase and your cheer bag.

Our First Practice...

This weekend we had our first practice, although not the entire family was there. :(
We missed you Kyla and Morgan!!! The girls worked very hard on Saturday at the UCA Stunt Camp! A huge thanks goes out to Niki and Heather who did an awesome job working with the squad a putting stunt groups together!!

That night we had our first team dinner at Bonsai Garden! The food was super yummy and we even celebrated Katie Fisher's birthday! :) We would've taken a group photo outside, but it was raining when we got done with dinner! :( But here are some photos from our dinner anyway!

The next morning we had practice from 9-12. The girls ran their first warm-up mile of the season and almost everyone made it in under 10 minutes! Great Job! Then we moved onto our tumbling skills test (which there will be another one on July 15th!!!) and I was blown away at the talent in tumbling that we have on our squad! After that, we moved onto basic group stunts! It is amazing how talented and flexible everyone is! :) Next came basket tosses!

Overall......I was a very productive and successful practice, although I am sure that the girls are EXTREMELY SORE!!!! I am so proud of all the girls and can't wait until July where I have the entire squad back!!! Yay! :)
